In 2006, Guangzhou 3G provided enhanced wireless services and VAS platform support for the China's City Beauties Pageant. The 3g company provided mobile services including user registration and contestant voting using Short Message Service (SMS), downloads of the contestants photos using Multi-media Messaging Service (MMS), ringtone downloads of the contest, voice hotline using Interactive Voice Response (IVR), as well as access to pageant information and related news, photos, video, and interviews via mobile phones and WAP services.
Contest Voting using Short Message Service (SMS)
Contest voting using Short Message Service (SMS) is a popular method used in various types of competitions and shows, particularly in television reality shows and radio contests. It involves viewers or listeners sending an SMS text message to a specific phone number or shortcode to cast their vote for a particular participant or option. The text message might include a specific keyword or code assigned to each contestant. This system of voting is easy to use, allows a large number of people to participate in real-time, and provides a simple way for the organizers to tally votes. However, it's important to note that such voting systems may be subject to charges by mobile operators, and measures should be in place to prevent vote manipulation or 'text vote stuffing.'
