New Garde Fashion Show
Feedsee Fashion : New Garde Fashion Show : XA produces event for Gen Art to promote three emerging designers
In 2007, XA was selected by Gen Art and Acura as the event production agency implementing the creation and construction of three emerging designers' dynamic installations for the The New Garde 2007 Fashion Show. The fashion presentations consisted of live-model vignettes at the Waterfront in Manhattan. An afterparty followed the event at the same location. As the production company, XA assisted in the creation, construction and management of all required elements to implement a highly stylized and integrated program showcasing the three fashion designers' concepts and visions. The New Garde featured the fall 2007 collections of three of the industry's rising stars including Chrishabana, Geren Ford, and FORM. The designers were chosen based on their established ability to maintain a successful independent fashion label while retaining a freshness and individuality with the shape and fabrication of their garments. Gen Art used the unique format of The New Garde to bring recognition to these three design talents poised to reach the next level of growth in the women's wear category. Unlike runway shows, The New Garde offered everyone a front row seat as twenty looks from each designer are shown.
How Technology Has Affected Runway Shows
Technology has profoundly impacted the fashion industry in many ways, including the manner in which runway shows are conducted. Here's how:
- Virtual and Augmented Reality: The adoption of virtual and augmented reality technologies has significantly transformed the fashion industry, especially runway shows. Designers now have the ability to create virtual runway shows that are immersive, interactive, and can be accessed by anyone around the world. For instance, Balenciaga presented its Fall 2021 collection in a video game format. Moreover, AR can allow users to virtually try on outfits showcased in a runway show, offering a more engaging shopping experience.
- Live Streaming: Thanks to technology, runway shows are no longer confined to a select group of industry insiders. Brands now live stream their shows, allowing millions of fashion enthusiasts from all over the world to have a front-row view. This has democratized access to high fashion and increased its visibility.
- 3D Printing: Designers have started to experiment with 3D printing to create pieces that would be difficult to construct by hand. At runway shows, this results in unique and innovative designs that push the boundaries of what's possible in fashion.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): AI has also begun to make its mark on the runway. AI can analyze fashion trends, helping designers understand what's currently in style and predict future trends. In addition, AI technology can also be used in producing runway shows, from light synchronization to coordinating music and visual effects.
- Digital Models and Holographs: Some brands have started to use digital models or holograms in their runway shows. For example, in 2006, a giant holographic image of the supermodel Kate Moss was projected on the runway for an Alexander McQueen show. More recently, brands like Balmain have created virtual models.
- Social Media: Platforms like Instagram and Twitter have revolutionized the way runway shows are covered and discussed. Images and videos from these events are instantly uploaded, allowing for real-time commentary and instant global reach.
- Sustainability: As the fashion industry grapples with its environmental footprint, technology is offering solutions like digital clothing and accessories. These items exist only virtually and are superimposed onto photos or videos of the wearer, thus offering a sustainable alternative for the ever-changing fashion demands.
Technology has dramatically reshaped runway shows, from the design process to the final presentation. It's exciting to think about what future advancements will bring to the world of fashion.
